Cold as a witchs t*&…

Well On Thursday the 22nd (Thanksgiving) I went over to the “Run for hunger“  Here is a few thoughts as I drove over to the race and standing around before the race…..Well it was 17 degrees outside when I was driving over to the park where the race was being started and ended in.  The ground was covered with frost. 

• Wondered if I could run without a hat…
• Thankful I had bought 99 cent gloves the day before….
• Wishing I had a head cover…The coldest part of my body was my neck
• The lines seemed really disorganized at registration…
• 4 porta potties for a race that expected 700+ runners…..PLEASE

It was extremely cold and I ran poor in the 17 degree weather…On to the next race…

Outdoor & Rain?

Well this morning it was raining decent but I had committed myself to getting a run in and also getting this run in outside.  I plan on running a 5k in Idaho Falls this coming Thursday so I thought I had better be able to deal with a little weather.   Well I had left my running shoes at the Y so I headed downtown to the Y and head from there for my run.  I got changed and out the door about 8:25 in the morning.  I ran my normal 2 mile loop that heads up through Hyde Park on 13th street to Camels Back park over to 9th street and back down towards downtown and the Co-op.  This is easily the coolest run I have done to date (I have ran this route 3 or 4 times now).  I would love to live down here in this area.  I stopped and walked for 3 different blocks during the run.  I do think I run faster outside but I lost that made up time with walking 3 different times.  I do struggle breathing a little more outside but I think that might be linked with running harder outside as well.  The rain never really bothered me at all.  The rain really felt good for the most part.  It was cold enough that I did wear a long sleeve Nike shirt.  Another good run that ended up being ran in just about 25 minutes.  I will take it…

Plan moving forward….

So the decision was made after a long hard process of laying out my goals for next year.  I had decided to run a marathon in year 08 at some point this past summer and that was the game plan until the announcement came through that there was now going to be a Half Ironman here in Boise….Man would it be cool to run in the first ever Boise Half Ironman….BUT then the realization of time and money that I would pump into it this year would not be fesiable.  I simply couldn’t pull it off by June 1st considering where I am at right now…(Well maybe I coupld but it would take more then I am willing to give right now not to mention the swim still scares the *&$% out of me…)

 Well with that said my main goal this next year is OFFICIALLY a MARATHON……..

I will track my progress towards a Marathon right here on a weekly bases and utalize this blog to stay connected with a few other runners and specifically my buddy Mark.  Mark and I got of the phone the other day and both are gearing towards running our first marathon this next year….(I will write about down the road).

Planning the old calendar….

Well I am the type of person that has to have something to work towards.  This is extreamly true when it comes to Triathlons and Running in general. 

Well I have a calendar hanging at my desk with races scribbled on various dates.  Some dates have multipule races listed.  On those dates I might have to make a decision on which race to run.  What a good problem to have….

You more or less have to have your goals in mind when laying out your calendar.  This is a problem for me.  I have a decent idea about my goals but I haven’t set them in stone yet.  I more or less am tring to decide between focusing on running or triathlons….That seems very simlar but it means a lot different train and what I spend my time on training…

8-13 Running

Well it was a outstanding day outside here in Boise I decided to head outside for a run…..Not mention when I got my locker at the gym I forgot to change over my glasses and I still had on my sunglasses. 

 I decided to run the y-2-camelback run.  This run is up 13th street in Boise through Hyde Park.  Once at Camelback park I turn and head over to 8th street and head back to the Y. 

I simply love this run.  It is very relaxing to run through this area of town.  I would give up a lot to live in this section of town.  I would totally love to have the ablity to ride my bike to work and live very close to downtown Boise. 

 Well I went through the first mile with decent success.  I had a little soreness in my right shoulder but I walked it off through the park.  Once on 8th street I ran most of the way back in with walking on 3 blocks.  I would say I ran 1.8 miles total.  So I figure 25 minutes is a little slow but with the walk it probably worked out ok. 

 Well with no decided on race for my next up I will have to figure out what comes next.

I think I will investigate short term goals tomorrow.
